Four years ago I attended a church service in a nearby town. The speaker was talking on how we need to hear from the Holy Spirit every day thus a fresh word, a now word is needed. He compared it with people needing physical food on a daily basis. We also need to hear from God every day. He likened these daily words to manna which was given to the wandering Israelites. God gave this physical food fresh for each days’ journey-no more, no less (more on the day before the Sabbath I believe.)
I knew about the hearing from God through Holy Spirit (I like to refer to Him without the “the” because He is a person) but I had never really sought Him for a daily word. This intrigued me so I began to ask. I would usually do this just after I woke up in the morning before my thoughts were crowded with things of my day. I would ask “Holy Spirit please give me a word for today, a fresh manna word.” Then in the quiet of my bedroom, I would listen. Soon I would hear thoughts coming into my mind. It’s just like when you talk to yourself, not out loud but to yourself. We learn to discern God’s voice. We learn to know when it’s our own thoughts and when we are really hearing from the Spirit.
After a period of time I began asking Holy Spirit for a specific word for a friend or family member; a birthday message or a word of direction and guidance. Holy Spirit was always so faithful to answer my request. (In the beginning He always heard and answered, I believe He was teaching me to hear. Now when I ask I sometimes need to wait, it may be just minutes or days but He always answers.)
One day as I was brushing my teeth (true story), the thought came to me, “why not do this for everyone?” This thought was from Holy Spirit!! This started my six weeks intensive seeking of the words from the Spirit. Each morning I would wait and write what I heard. Each word full of love and wisdom. After awhile I began to ask the Spirit to give me a word on a specific topic such as fear, love or old age AND HE DID! I asked “what do I call these messages?” and instantly I heard “love letters” and that is exactly what they are. Love letters from God to you. May you feel the love He is expressing as you read each one!
Till next week,
