When we ask Jesus to be the Lord of our lives, when we confess our sins and believe that He is the Son of God, we are “born again” and the spirit of Jesus is received into our heart. Our spiritual senses are quickened and we can begin to hear from His Spirit who now lives in us.
Jesus is always talking to us through the Holy Spirit. We may not be aware of it. Scripture states that we can hear: “My sheep hear my voice.”
I have found that I need to make a conscious effort to listen. I need to set aside a definite place and time to hear from the Spirit. In that “quiet place” we will hear that “still, small voice.” Expect God to speak to you! Say “I hear from the Holy Spirit” and you will. He will speak to us in different ways. It will not always be His voice but it maybe through a hymn, worship music or perhaps a scripture.
When we receive Jesus into our hearts we receive the Holy Spirit in part. There is another in-filling of the Spirit called being baptized in the Holy Spirit. This is a free gift from God that we receive by faith. With this baptism comes a greater closeness to the Holy Spirit. We become more connected or in tune with God and what He is saying. The bible becomes clear to us the Holy Spirit leads us into all truth.
Hearing from the Holy Spirit is not difficult. He wants a relationship with us. God does talk to us, we can’t make it happen but we can allow it. “Be still and know that I am God!”
